JOMAD &#38;amp; ANDREW is the collaborative practice of French-Caribbean artist JOMAD and Filipino-American artist ANDREW AGUTOS. Their murals are crafted with the intimacy of a family photo album, using public space as an arena for conversation between older generations and their own. Each mural becomes a monument, a testament to communal life—intermingling of cultures, local landscapes and neighborhood rituals—brought up to date. 


The artists arrive at their compositions through a mix of archive photo research, traveling and face-to-face dialogue with residents of the communities they are painting in. Their scenes are composed in a collage-like method, then translated directly on the wall with brushes, allowing for moments of imperfection. Parts of the painting may be left unfinished or blurry, revealing the initial gesture and reading towards abstraction—mirroring the way memories are thought about and perceived collectively. Throughout the process, the painters alternate their distances of looking at the work. Up-close, they engage with their subjects on an intimate painterly level, while from afar, the distortion in scale and impact might suggest a kind of ancestral communication. 


These conversations recall photographed keepsakes memorializing their fashionable teenage aunts sightseeing in the ‘70s, celebrating Easter with a plate of crab at the beach between cousins and the wake for a deceased uncle in a cemetery lit by candles. For the artist-duo today, their photo entries depict everyday mobility in French Guiana, the spirit of Caribbean carnival in Guadeloupe, celebrations of women or a typical day in Paris. Their work functions to rekindle these emotions of surprise, joy, humor and clarity. 


Each exchange in language and geography are recorded as painted time capsules, where the main threads of family values last, while also continuing to evolve over time: celebration, tradition, beliefs. Walls and public surfaces revitalize these defining moments and complement their foundational preservation.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;


Their collaboration draws on their well-developed individual practices: JOMAD focuses on the movement of the body, compositional balance, dreamlike floral landscapes and the colors of Martinique that blossom through the human condition, while ANDREW AGUTOS draws on poetic introspection, an expressionist sensibility and references to fashion, music and metropolitan culture. Their combined approach fuses graffiti and fine art, figuration and abstraction, producing visually rich compositions that convey multiple planes, perspectives and movements to create sensational experiences.

Mairie du 11e arrondissement - 7e edition Biennale d’Art Contemporain
Paris, France
Jomad was 1 of 12 artists selected by La Mairie du 11e arrondissement to paint a mural for the community as part of their 7th Edition Biennale d’Art Contemporain.
	The mural proposed for the social housing building in Paris's 11th arrondissement is part of an initiative to enhance residents' living space. It highlights the themes of greenery, calm and solidarity, in line with the wishes expressed by residents. 

The composition is centered around a lush garden, a symbol of peace and well-being, and scenes of community life illustrating gestures of closeness and conviviality. Residents of all generations are depicted sharing moments together—an exchange, a hug, a conversation, an offering of flowers—emphasizing the importance of social ties and living together.

This mural opens a door to a place of peace, where greenery flourishes, where eyes meet and gestures are extended. This living tableau is an invitation: to slow down, to breathe, to smile at those we meet. It is an image of this neighborhood, made up of diversity, humanity and shared gentleness.

The mural’s title, Gula Matari, pays homage to the 1970 Quincy Jones album seen in DJ Mehdi’s arm as he browses the record shop, possibly searching for sounds to sample.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, this mural depicts a jubilant crowd, swept up in a collective and festive energy. In this joyful effervescence, women from all walks of life are celebrated as central figures in our daily lives. Two of them emerge from the crowd, reminiscent of the enthusiasm at concerts where people crowdsurf during the show.


The deliberately surreal and eccentric scene amplifies this celebration to better reveal an obvious truth: women are already everywhere, present in our lives, our stories and our societies.


By exaggerating attitudes, expressions and movements, the artwork transforms this often silent recognition into a moment of exaltation. Between genre painting and dreamlike vision, the mural becomes a vibrant tribute to the diversity of women’s journeys.


The work invites the viewer to participate in this symbolic ovation, reminding us that these women, carried here by the crowd, are also those who carry the weight of the world every day.

Chateau de Millet is a family-run business producing several types of armagnac, wines and ciders. Painted for STREET’ART’MAGNAC Festival 2021, we explore the contrasts of life as it pertains to having a taste for the occasional glass. With the giggles of close young friends on the left, we evoke the exhilaration of life, the joy of living and the carefree spirit of this friendly moment, like a good memory they’ll be recounting in a few years’ time. The framing is closer to the viewer, more intimate. The language is accessible, uninhibited and of course, funny. On the other hand, we have an homage of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, which evokes the nocturnal atmosphere of the bar and the more mysterious experience between adults. Time seems frozen, recalling a more serious side and another form of social interaction. Two ways of evoking alcohol, and therefore two ways of enjoying it.

Venus Projection is a large-scale work that blends classical and contemporary styles. The piece features two central figures: one is a reinterpretation of The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, with Venus’ flowing red hair and serene expression. The second figure, a modern interpretation, depicts a Black woman in a classical pose wearing an off-the-shoulder gown—traces of Botticelli’s portrait casting a distorted image on the woman as if being covered by the light of a projection.


With the juxtaposition of these figures, we create a dialogue between traditional European ideals of beauty and contemporary expressions of identity, emphasizing diversity and inclusion.


Viewable from the highway in Paris, we wanted to depict both a celebration of classical art and a challenge to reframe beauty standards through the lens of cultural diversity. The setting and scale suggest an encompassing experience, as well as a thought-provoking statement.

We created this mural as part of ATIP’ART FESTIVAL DE STREET ART’s 5th Edition in French Guiana. Painted in acrylic and spray paint, this mural depicts a family meal. Each member of the family comes from a different ethnic group. Inspired directly by the colors and community of this diverse South American region, French Guiana is a land of welcome, bringing together Creole, Indigenous, Bushinengué, Brazilian and Hmong populations and many more. It’s an explosion of textures and flavors—with stories, jokes and good-naturedness intertwining as they might around the table.
