At Paris 8 University, our mural pays tribute to major figures in knowledge and culture, chosen for the strength of their careers and the resonance they have today. The portraits form a constellation of faces from different fields—science, literature, politics—and reflect a desire for inclusive representation, attentive to diversity of origins, genders and experiences. The work resonates with the energy of the region and invites transmission, reflection and collective pride.
The mural’s title, Gula Matari, pays homage to the 1970 Quincy Jones album seen in DJ Mehdi’s arm as he browses the record shop, possibly searching for sounds to sample.
